Cooking Tips
Eggs are versatile, delicious and they have a number of health benefits that add another reason to make them a regular part of your diet.
We’ve gathered up a few of our favourite cooking tips to make it even easier to use eggs in your daily menu.
Cracking eggs
Although most people crack eggs on the side of a bowl, the best way to crack an egg is on a flat surface. It is the best way to keep bits of the shell from ending up in the egg.
Shells in the Eggs
If you do end up with shell in your egg, the best way to get it out is with the broken half of the eggshell. The jagged edge cuts through the raw egg to catch and remove the fragment.
Cleaning Up
To clean up spilled egg, cover the spill with salt and then just wipe it up with a paper towel. The salt draws the moisture out of the egg making it easier to clean.
Peeling Eggs
To peel a hard-boiled egg, crack it on a surface and then roll it in your palms to loosen the shell. Peel it from the large end. Holding it under cold water will help the shell come off more easily.
Egg Sizes
Unless otherwise specified, most recipes that call for an egg are referring to a large egg. When using small or jumbo eggs, you should modify accordingly.
Measurements
A cup is equal to approximately 5 large eggs, and 1 large egg is about 3 tablespoons.
